Learning Objectives: 1. Identify the elements of the engineering design process 2. Apply the engineering design process in solving open-ended design challenges 3. Develop effective instructional strategies and professional responsibility around design instruction (MA-DESE “Principles of Effective Teaching And Examples of Descriptors") 4. Collaborate with peers locally and online 5. Investigate technologies that can be incorporated in the classroom to encourage open-ended design thinking among students. 6. Create and present a design lesson to be used in the classroom.
Required Materials: Text: A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel H. Pink Hybrid course - online access required for team assignments No other required materials
Technical Requirements: Course is intended for practicing teachers in grades 1-6. Online collaboration will be necessary to complete team assignments in hybrid course format.
