PHYS 201 - Physics with Applications to Earth and Life Systems
An introduction to the aspects of physics relevant to the earth and life sciences, surveyed at a non-calculus level. This course prepares students to understand Earth, environmental, and life processes, from earthquakes and climate change to electrical conduction in the nervous system and biological systems. Topics include motion and forces; energy and its conservation; fluids; oscillations and waves; electrostatic force and currents; simple and complex systems; and radioactivity. Laboratory (3 hours). Note: This is a one-semester course and may not be acceptable to some professional or graduate programs. Corequesite: PHYS 201 Physics with Applications to Earth and Life Systems Laboratory. Prerequisite: MATH 180 Precalculus.
