PRDV 73824 - Teaching the African-American Experience through Slave Narratives |
An introduction to slave narratives as an effective method of conveying historical content about the African-American experience during a time when slavery was legal in our nation. Designed for Grades 9-12 educators, participants examine narratives ranging from early slavery in America, plantation life, challenges faced by free African Americans, and the substantial impact of the Fugitive Slave Act on escaped slaves with an emphasis on the Underground Railroad. The course incorporates primary source materials to enhance curriculum and meet the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
