|ECON 840 - Public Finance|
This course applies basic economic theory to the question of the economically defensible scope
of public sector activity. Also examined is the theory of public choice and the theory of public
expenditure. Specific topics are then addressed using the principles obtained from the theory.
Such topics include social security, income maintenance programs, regulation, food stamps and
health care. Prerequisites: 12.610 Economic Analysis, or 12.101 Principles of Macroeconomics and 12.102 Principles of Microeconomics.
