---|
A study of the role played by communication media in the process of globalization. Students consider the issues raised by global media ever since undersea cables began to connect the countries of the world at the end of the 19th century. Particular attention is given to the contemporary situation: internet governance, intellectual property regimes, and the role of cultural industries in a globalized world. Through an examination of globalization, students gain a deeper appreciation of the articulations between communication technologies, politics, and culture.
