STAT 307 - Intermediate Statistics |
An opportunity for students to engage with a variety of statistical tools for solving problems involving real-world data. After a detailed review of the Central Limit Theorem, t-tests, and simple linear regression models, topics may include methods of inference for the median, paired binary data, variance, three or more means, and continuous distributions. The application and interpretation of predictive linear regression models, such as normal linear regression, categorical regression, logistic regression, and multinomial regression may be discussed. An overview is given of principles of sampling, experimental design, and survey methodology and methods for analyzing data arising from various implementations of these procedures. Multiple testing procedures and statistical computing methods, such as the simple bootstrap, are explored. Emphasis is placed on selecting the appropriate inferential method for a given setting. The use of statistical software such as R/RStudio is explored in order to analyze large datasets arising from a variety of domain areas.
