ENVS 272 - Global Environmental Issues |
A survey of the pressing environmental problems threatening the survival of human society and planetary ecological systems, and the social, economic, and environmental costs of these problems, especially for people in marginalized communities and people in less-developed countries. In addition to anthropogenic climate change, issues covered include: ozone depletion, deforestation, loss of biodiversity, acid rain, desertification, marine pollution, shortages of clean water, and e-waste. The course frames these environmental problems in relevant economic, cultural, and geopolitical contexts, and considers various proposals for positive change, including technological innovations and changes through governance at multiple scales.
