ENVS 246 - Sustainability and Social Justice |
An examination of how societies make choices about sustainability and environmental policy. The conditions that have framed sustainability in the United States are explored through political, economic, ethical, social justice, and scientific lenses. Particular attention is paid to the struggles of dispossessed and marginalized communities to achieve environmental justice. Critical analysis of specific environmental issues such as siting of locally unwanted land uses, toxic waste sites, air pollution, and over-fishing, are used to understand environmental policies and the many variables that affect these policies.
