An examination of the changing meanings of femininity and womanhood in the United States. The course explores societal attitudes towards feminine identities and analyzes major issues impacting women in society. Students discuss the social, cultural, institutional, and social psychological forces that influence the lives of women and girls. Special attention is given to the impact of race/ethnicity, social class, and other aspects of power, privilege, and identity on women's status and experiences in society.
