PORT 300 - Portuguese in the Community |
An in-depth exploration of the Luso-African-Brazilian experience in the United States (US). This course promotes community engagement as a vehicle for greater linguistic fluency and cultural understanding. Class work focuses on expanding students' oral and written proficiency through discussion and analysis of historical developments and migration patterns, ethnographic studies, literature and film by and about Luso-African-Brazilians in the United States. Students are placed with community organizations in the Framingham, Massachusetts area and volunteer for sixteen (16) hours over the semester in order to develop an overarching project.
Prerequisite: PORT 201 Intermediate Portuguese I or PORT 225 Business Communication in Portuguese, or the equivalent placement test score; or permission of instructor.
