COMM 206 - Experimental Film Production
A hands-on introduction to the production of experimental films. Working independently and occasionally in teams, students create short-form experimental films which may include or combine live-action, still images, and/or found footage. The course includes lectures, assigned readings, screenings and critiques of a radically diverse selection of works from the avant-garde and experimental cinema; works that delve in subject matter such as eroticism, narrativity, collage, abstraction, and self-reflection. Students critically assess these works and apply one or more of the visionary aesthetics into an original film of their own design. Course meets for six (6) hours per week. NOTE: Students use High Definition (HD) cameras with video capture abilities.
