NUTR 940 - Nutrition and Healthy Aging
A study of the individual, social, and environmental factors that affect the nutrition status, health outcomes, and quality of life of older adults. Emphasis is placed on both the concept of successful aging and the causes and consequences of malnutrition in older adults. Investigation focuses on the delivery of community-based services and the development of nutrition policies at the local, state, and national levels that support aging populations. Topics may include: nutrition science and assessment for older adults, sociocultural influences on aging and health, community nutrition programs, public health policies for age-friendly communities, and an introduction to careers in the field of nutrition for older adults. Prerequisites: Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or related field, or course in community nutrition, or Registered Dietitian.
