| HSTY 388 - Peter to Putin: The History of Modern Russia |

A study of major political, social, and cultural developments in Russia and its foreign relations from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century. Topics may include Russia’s modernization under Peter the Great; cultural transformation and imperialism over Asian and European peoples during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; the Russian Revolution; communism under Lenin, Stalin, and their successors; World War II and the Cold War; the fall of the Soviet Union and rise of a new authoritarianism.
Prerequisites: Sophomore standing and one (1) 100-level history course; or permission of instructor.
