CRIM 360 - Media and Crime |
An examination of the portrayal of crime, criminals, and punishment in media. Drawing upon structural and cultural perspectives, students analyze various forms of media, including news, television, film, and music, to understand how narratives about crime and criminals are formed, how such narratives impact policy and public opinion, and what such narratives can tell us about ourselves and our relationships to each other.
Prerequisites: ANTH 161 Cultural Anthropology or CRIM 121 Social Perspectives on Criminology or SOCI 101 Introduction to Sociology or SOCI 130 Social Problems; and (1) 200-level ANTH or CRIM or SOCI course.
