HLTH 326 - Drugs, Alcohol, and Addictive Behavior
A multidisciplinary study of the relationships of drug use, misuse, and abuse to biological and psychological health. Students explore the types of compounds that can influence brain activity, behavior, and physiology. Topics include the history of drug abuse in American society, the nature of tolerance and dependence, drug regulation and the law, the categories of drugs (stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, anabolic steroids, inhalants, narcotics/opiates), and their effects on the body systems. This course is appropriate for health educators who cover drug abuse in educational settings. Prerequisite: An introductory biology course with lab.
