ENGL 326 - The Novel and the World
A study of twentieth and twenty-first century novels from outside the United States and Europe. The course explores responses to the European and the American novel as well as innovations that emerge from local traditions. Readings may draw from Africa, the Indian subcontinent, South America, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and the Caribbean and novelists may include Chinua Achebe, Arundhati Roy, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mo Yan, Naguib Mahfouz, Keri Hulme, and Patrick Chamoiseau. Some novels may be read in translation. Prerequisites: ENGL 204 Literary Study or permission of instructor.
