SOCI 325 - Health and Illness |
An examination of health and illness in society. Special attention is given to social determinants of health, how social inequality affects access to healthcare, and how individuals and society make meaning of health and illness. Topics covered may include social definitions and experiences of health and illness, societal responses to health crises, disability, the incidence and prevalence of illness, the physician-patient relationship, and the organization of the healthcare system.
Prerequisite: Sophomore standing and any course in Anthropology, Sociology, or Criminology; or permission of the instructor.
