HSTY 321 - European and American Muslims: A History |
A study of Muslim communities that have constituted integral parts of European and American life for centuries, while often construed as outsiders to it. Major cases to be explored include Medieval Islamic Spain and the Reconquista, the Ottoman Empire and its successor states in the Balkans, immigrant communities in 20th century Western Europe, and the role of Islam and Muslims in America from the Revolutionary era to the present.
Prerequisite: Sophomore standing and a 100-level history course; or permission of instructor.
