An intensive analysis of the social, political, and economic factors in antebellum America that led to the Civil War, the war itself, and the problems of reconstructing the nation after the war. In discussions of each of these distinct and yet interrelated periods, the course explores the actions, experiences, and belief systems of people of all races and walks of life alongside the actions of political and military leaders.
Prerequisites: Sophomore standing and one (1) 100-level history course; or permission of instructor.
