SPAN 234 - Music and Culture in the Hispanic World |
A study of the concept of song as a discursive genre in the musical production of Latin America and Spain through the connection between music and lyrics. Students analyze representative singer-songwriters and pop artists to become familiar with the nuances of multiple music styles including but not limited to tango, bolero, salsa, cumbia, flamenco, reggaetón, hip-hop, and rock. Students practice intermediate grammar and vocabulary as they analyze the development of music and culture in the Hispanic world. Conducted in Spanish.
Prerequisite: SPAN 202 Intermediate Spanish II or the equivalent placement test score; or prior approval of instructor.
