SOCI 233 - Reproductive Rights and Reproductive Justice |
A sociological examination of reproductive rights and reproductive justice. Students explore how changing social and cultural contexts influence attitudes towards reproduction and pregnancy, access to reproductive healthcare, and understandings of reproductive rights and reproductive justice. Emphasis is placed on the role of institutions and social movements in developing and contesting the meaning of reproductive freedom in society. Special attention is paid to the impact of race, class, gender, and religion on reproductive issues. Topics covered may include contraception, abortion, infertility, technology, eugenics, forced sterilization, welfare, and foster care.
