PSYC 222 - Psychopathology |
A survey of mental health conditions, such as mood, anxiety, eating, substance use, and psychotic disorders, included in the most recent version of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM). The current criteria used to categorize psychological disorders are examined. Problems in differentiating psychological disorder from typical human behavior are discussed. Major theoretical approaches to causation, such as the biological, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and humanistic approaches are examined and compared.
Prerequisite: PSYC 101 General Psychology.
