| BIOL 321 - Limnology |
|
The study of inland aquatic ecosystems including lakes, rivers, and wetlands. Links between the abiotic environment and biota are emphasized. Topics may include physical-chemical gradients, biogeochemical cycles, freshwater organisms, species interactions, and the impact and management of human stressors (e.g., eutrophication, acid deposition, invasive species, and climate change). Students learn standard field sampling techniques and lab analyses and apply these methods as they examine current scientific questions and issues. Students are required to enroll in the corresponding laboratory (3 hours).
Prerequisite: BIOL 248 Principles of Ecology or permission from instructor.
