COMM 366 - Documentary Filmmaking |
An advanced course that explores the numerous facets of writing, directing, and producing non-fiction stories. Students examine the history, theories and practices of non-fiction storytelling, while also studying the aesthetics, ethics, and other practical considerations inherent in the medium. Lectures and critiques encourage the analysis of non-fiction storytelling’s place in today’s society. Working in teams, students conceive an original idea and demonstrate competence by organizing and creating a non-fiction story. Additional emphasis is to be placed on the role of research, planning, marketing and distribution of these films. Demonstrations, guest lectures, field trips, screenings, and discussions supplement the study of this genre. Note: Students cannot receive credit for this course and COMM 366 Field Production II
Prerequisite: COMM 280 Introduction to Film Production or permission of the instructor.
