A broad exploration of imperial Soviet and post-Soviet periods. Among the topics stressed are
the Rurican, Byzantine and Muscovite formative influences of the Pre-Petrine era; the modernization of Russia under Peter I and his successors; the growth and development of intelligentsia during the nineteenth century; the emergence and dissolution of the USSR , and developments within the post-Communist epoch. Prerequisite: 32.154 Western Civilization since the Renaissance.
