ENGL 890 - The English Language
A study of the ancestry of English, of the processes and results of change in sound, form, and meaning. The classification of languages, social and regional dialects, theories of language acquisition, and other topics are examined to give the student a general understanding of modern developments in linguistics. Note: Students cannot receive credit for this course if ENGL 401 The English Language has already been completed as an undergraduate student. Prerequisites: One graduate literature course or permission of the instructor.
